Desde su surgimiento, acaecido a mediados de los anos noventa, los cibercafes han alcanzado una vasta difusion en los paises mas desarrollados. Esta rapida expansion inicial tenia por objetivo satisfacer a buen precio las necesidades tanto del elevado porcentaje de los hogares que por aquel entonces no contaban con acceso a la red como de los viajeros de toda indole. Progresivamente, ha ido aumentando el numero de hogares - fundamentalmente norteamericanos, europeos у de la parte mas oriental de Asia - que tienen acceso a Internet. Esta situacion llevo a que el boom de los primeros tiempos se estacionase, у a que solo subsistiesen los cibercafes capaces de proporcionar al servicio basico un valor anadido de diseno у funcionalidad. Cybercafes centra sus esfuerzos en mostrar la vertiente mas estetica de dichos establecimientos у de los aqui denominados surfing interiors, en clara evocacion de la navegacion digital у de la interconexion en tiempo real. Asimismo, ofrece una muestra de la amplia gama de tipos de cibercafes existentes, cuyos origenes arraigan en su modalidad mas tradicional: cyberlounges en restaurantes у en escuelas, centros formativos que emplean el e-learning como metodo de ensenanza, entidades que brindan el servicio de online banking, у los establecimientos del futuro, anunciados por el diseno de nuevos soportes para la comunicacion digital. Since their emergence in the mid-nineties, cybercafes have spread wildly throughout the world's more developed countries. This initial, rapid expansion had the aim of affordably satisfying the needs of both the large numbers of homes without Internet access and travelers of all types. Slowly the number of homes who had Internet access -mainly North American, European and Eastern Asian- increased. This situation lead to the end of the initial boom, and only the cybercafes capable of providing some kind of value added to the basic service, related to their design and functionality, could survive. Cybercafes focuses on the most aesthetical side of these establishments and what is known as their surfing interiors, which clearly evoke digital navigation and real time interconnection. Likewise, it offers a wide range of examples of existing cybercafes, whose origins have taken root in the more traditional form, including cyberlounges in restaurants and schools, training centers that use e-learning as a method of teaching and institutions that offer the service of online banking, as well as the establishments of the future, hailed by the design of new mediums of digital communication.
